(No) Face

No Face

I don’t post faces here on my blog. I’m trying to respect mine and others’ privacy issues.

So, for this week’s photo challenge you get a blank mannequin face; which is not as scary as the fashion mannequins that populate the museum I use to work at. There is a fine line between creepy and the uncanny valley when it comes to duplicating human faces.

My daddy’s face is a study. Winter moves into it and presides there. His eyes become a cliff of snow threatening to avalanche, his eyebrows bend like black limbs of leafless trees. His skin takes on the pale cheerless yellow of winter sun; for a jaw he has the edges of a snowbound field dotted with stubble; his high forehead is the frozen sweep of the Erie. ~Toni Morrison

I think your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that. ~Lauren Bacall

Victory

Mourning Angel

War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.

Jimmy Carter, Nobel Lecture, December 10, 2002

War is a series of catastrophes that results in a victory.

Georges Clemenceau (1841 – 1929)

Weekly Photo Challenge

Chairs

Not quite the full rainbow – I’m missing orange and indigo. I love indigo, to me it’s the colour of the light at dusk especially in the winter. Plus, if these chairs had been in my yard I would have put the white chair in the middle! I took this when I was walking home from work last year so it’s just some random yard in some random city. I’m not compulsive enough that I would rearrange chairs in a stranger’s yard.

Potato Head Box

And here, I am missing red and blue and indigo. I need to take more indigo pictures. I love that word – the sound of it, the shape of it, the spirit of it.

Indigo,

indigo,

Indigo.

Intricate

Broken Cookie

This is a broken cookie. (She states the obvious). The center is very detailed. Each center seed is a small dark purple ball. I did not make this cookie. It would be too much trouble to ice and detail. I am lazy and like the Cookie Monster will eat even broken cookies. Num, num.

Pink Flowers

The next two pictures are from my cruise to Alaska last June. I do not know what kind of flowers they are. If you know, tell me. Thanks.

Purple Flowers

They are both simple and intricate in design and have such pretty, vibrant colour to them.

I’m ready for the trees to start budding and the flowers to bloom. How about you?

Abandoned & Ancient

March 2, 2014 at 8:15 am (Meme) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I am feeling ancient, ancient and cold (the minus 50 degree Celsius day is not helping). I am rock. I am granite. I am stone.

Water runs off me, through me and wears away at my surface.

The good stuff is underneath, is inside.

I am gargoyle, grotesque. I am a statue – immobile.

I am ancient. I am unknown.

I am abandoned.

There is beauty there.

Old. Ancient. Abandoned.
